Born and raised in the Virgin Islands (U.S.), Caribbean artist, Yvonne D. Petersen art reflects her proud Afro-Caribbean heritage and her lineage. "I can trace my family roots before the my islands were transferred from Denmark to the United States of America."

Close friends and colleague considers Yvonne a natural-born artist that started when she won first prize in the art show in 5th grade class, one of student commissioned by the late Governor Cyril E. King to paint the mural at the (old0 Harry S. Truman Airport in St. Thomas. Through a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts, Yvonne learned the principles of watercolor painting and fine arts under the personal tutelage of the late international watercolorist Jo Tarabula, who was commissioned by President Carter to develop an art exchange with South America.

 

With exception of her work, Market Woman, which is a limited edition in print, her other art work is available in limited editions in giglee.  All work in reproduced to order.

Market Woman


This painting in a acrylic wash depicts a young rasta woman leaving the fruit and vegetable market in the early morning. She closes her eyes in shyness as the stranger who looks at her as she attempts to walk by unaware of her natural beauty and the aura she embodies.
